    Ora è ufficiale: il mantello dell'invisibilità esiste e funziona. Un team di scienziati americani e britannici l'ha infatti testato con successo in un laboratorio della Duke University in North Carolina. Lo speciale "mantello" ha nascosto quasi completamente un cilindro di rame da microonde. Tecnicamente parlando, il dispositivo è riuscito a respingere le microonde attorno all'oggetto, ripristinandole dall'altro lato come se fossero passate attraverso uno spazio vuoto.

    Non siamo ancora al mantello dell'invisibilità di Harry Potter o alla bacchetta magica delle fate che fa sparire cose e persone, ma secondo John Pendry, dell'Imperial College di Londra, ''si sta cominciando ad aprire la porta del giardino segreto''.

    Il singolare strumento dell'invisibilità è costituito essenzialmente di dieci anelli di fibra di vetro coperti di elementi di rame, che indirizzano nella direzione voluta le onde elettromagnetiche. Come le onde della luce, anche le onde elettromagnetiche infatti rimbalzano sugli oggetti rendendoli visibili e provocando un'ombra visibile soltanto con strumenti specifici.
