James Brown
Il padrino del soul, di ego gigantesco, nato nel South Carolina nel '33, è con Chuck Berry uno dei grandi padri della musica nera contemporanea e il primo grande bestseller nero: il suo sound e il suo senso dello show in concerto hanno ispirato Michael Jackson, Prince, i rappers di prima e seconda generazione. Il primo singolo con i Flames, "Please Please Please" del '56, vendette milioni di copie; partendo dal gospel e dal rhythm'n'blues, elaborò uno stile personale che privilegiava il ritmo e l'uso dei fiati; a metà dei '60 il funky cominciava ad allevare generazioni. Fra gli album: "Live at Apollo" del '63, "Pure Dinamite" del '64, "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud" del '69. E' stato un difensore dei diritti dei neri e li ha cantati nelle canzoni; in tarda maturità l'uso di droghe l'ha portato a lungo in galera; ha ripreso poi a girare il mondo in concerto

Proprio questa estate ho visto sia James Brown che Chuck Berry dal vivo a Trani (Bari).
Grandissima esperienza, non mi pareva vero di avere il privilegio di assistere a una performance di questi due artisti, Chuck Berry ha quasi 80 anni ma ha una carica pazzesca.
Potere del rock and roll!

mi è rimasta impressa fin dalla prima volta che l'ho sentita tantissimi anni fa....
